Grading
This year all report cards will be based on standards and how well your child is doing understanding each standard. The grading scale is as follows:
M- Mastery
P-Proficiency
LP- Limited Proficiency
NP- Not Proficient
NA- Not Attempted
Mastery is only achieved when the student completely knows the standard and we have covered all parts of the standard. Usually this is not achieved until towards the end of the year. Proficiency means that the standard is being learned at a pace consistent with 2nd grade pacing. Limited Proficiency means that the student is struggling to understand that particular concept. Not Proficient means that the student is not understanding the concepts that are being taught. Not Attempted means that the student is not attempting their work.
When I place grades onto your child's work, I will write the standard that assignment is grading (sometimes there are more than one, they will all be listed), give the letter corresponding to their work, and I will put a percentage on it as well. I have placed a picture below of what this will look like.

You can find all of the standards on the website above.
This is a new grading scale for Currituck County Schools and I appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks. Let Mrs. Woodward know if you have questions!
